Ongoing SmP projects

Study of the benefits of draught springs in the interaction between draught horses and implements

This link leads to a poster, which was presented on this subject at the “7th International Colloquium on Working Equids” at the Royal Holloway University in London from 1 to 3 July 2014.

This study is expected to be completed end of 2015.

Study of the draft power requirements of various modern implements for animal traction

The following link leads to test reports of different modern implements, which were analysed in relation to their working and the required draft power.

This study will be extended in the future to other implements and machinery. The corresponding test results will be published continually here.

Study of the loads on back pads and collars of various harness and hitch types

The following link leads to test reports, which show up the loading of the work horses in different hitches.

This study will be extended in the future to other harness and components. The corresponding test results will be published continually here.

Future SmP projects

  • Study of the effect of the draught angle to the tractive effort on various implements
  • Study of the efficiency of multiple hitches by comparison to a single hitch on various implements
  • Study of the mechanical efficiency of various modern implements for animal traction
